The 12th Annual Nunan Open was held on Sunday, July 21st. The family of Andrew, Nancy, and Ava Nunan have always held their event at the CCC and decided this year to change the direction of the event: raise funds for the Junior Golf Program.
Growing up in the Montgomery County area, Andrew learned the game of golf from numerous members of the community. He still feels very fondly of the people that helped him along the way as he played junior golf and went on to play in college. It was Andrew’s goal to give back to the same community that helped him.
18 foursomes showed up in support of the Nunan Open and numerous companies helped out in sponsorship dollars: Aslan Electric, Arni’s, Walker Dentistry, Rice Insurance, Town and Country, Pettit Pools, and Sommer Metalcraft. All persons involved helped raise a substantial amount of money to get the Junior Fund started.
It was very fitting that the team of Andrew Nunan, Dave Hart,Darryl Myers, and Gary Dillman won the event with a score of 57 (-13). It was also very fitting that the purse money from many of the awards was donated back to the Junior Fund. Thank you to all who participated.
The 2013 PGA Junior League Season came to a close with a few of the CCC’s players getting to move on to our League’s All-Star Team. Tyler Anderson, Hunter Donaldson, and Owen Zimmerman represented the CCC at a match versus the Kokomo Area League on Thursday, July 18th. The match was played at Chippendale Golf Club in Kokomo in some very hot and humid weather. The match was very well contested by the CCC bunch, but our opponent was playing on their home course and hit some very good shots to outplay our All-Stars. Great job and great season to all who participated in this year’s PGA Junior League.
Our League’s Team lost to the Kokomo Area League 7 1/2 to 4 1/2. The Kokomo All-Stars move on in the State tournament to play the winner of the Plymouth-Chesterton match. Good luck to our opponents.
The CCC Junior Team played their last match of the season on Sunday, July 14th versus Ulen CC of Lebanon. The weather was hot and the golf course played fast for the youngsters. Though the Ulen team was short a few players, we were still able to send out 3 matches for the players to compete. In the end, the CCC team was victorious with a score of 6 – 3.
Both teams showed exemplary sportsmanship for their time together. The main lesson learned over the course of this season was really how much fun the kids could have while also respecting each other, their opponents, and the course. The parents of all the players in the league constantly expressed their enjoyment and gratefulness for this the first season for the Junior Team season. We will continue to offer this program for years to come. This season was truly a job well done for all those involved. Thanks for participating.
Ken Newnum hit his first hole in one ever on Hole #14 on Saturday, July 13th. Ken hit an 8 iron from 132 yards that bounced short and rolled right up into the hole. Great shot Ken!
With the help of his ace, Ken Newnum teamed up with Greg Bell and Kevin Everett to win the 1BB-2BB-3BB MGA event with a score of 134 (-4). A great team effort as they ...
The Grounds Crew at the Crawfordsville Country Club has been working on cleaning out the stream that runs from the spring-fed pond on Hole #2 down to the old swimming hole. Our staff has been able to clean the stream of debris, grass, and weeds, thereby improving the flow of water to the lower ponds and the overall natural beauty of the facility. The crew is also cleaning out the stream on Hole #3, which is primarily drainage coming from the back nine. A nasty job for anyone, the crew did not hesitate to jump in and get dirty to improve the look of the CCC.
The stream nearest the clubhouse was deemed the “Water Babble” by General Lew Wallace, who used to call the old CCC clubhouse his summer home. See the History page for more information.
